GOVERNANCE

DENE KʼÉH GŪ́SʼĀN (PEOPLEʼS WAY)

Liard First Nation (LFN) is one of three Yukon First Nations that did not enter into Final Agreements under the Umbrella Final Agreement process.  We continue to govern ourselves in accordance with Kaska customs and traditional laws and maintain a claim along with all the Kaska to Kaska Aboriginal title to our traditional homelands.

The Liard First Nation government has three structures of governance:

  • The General Assembly
  • The Elected Chief and Council
  • The Elders’ Council

LFN members also have the opportunity to serve on boards and committees as well as participate in member engagement and consultation processes.

PROGRAMS & SERVICES

Liard First Nation programs and services are provided through different departments.

Services are typically supported by core funding and help LFN members in their day-to-day lives. For example, access to income assistance; upkeep of community buildings; or supporting someone in the legal system, are just a few of the ways in which various LFN departments provide services to our members.

Projects are generally funded through proposals or applications and have a specific focus and time period.  For example, a youth event, a series of health workshops, or a rental housing renovation.
